Refreshing your logo can be stressful, but it’s the good kind. It makes you think long and hard about your brand voice, your loyal customer base, intentions and opportunities for expansion, and of course, your marketing strategy. It’s so easy to stick to the same marketing cycle, especially when it’s working, but designing a new logo is an excellent launching pad to evolve your advertising.
As you go through your redesign, keep your signage in mind!
Start by refreshing your memory on attention spans. You only have a few seconds to catch someone’s eye, and you want that look to leave an impression. Whether you’re on the side of the 8-second attention span or have faith that folks still read more than 140 characters at a time, you can’t deny that there is a lot of competition for your customer’s line of sight. Your logo should be instantly recognizable. Every single detail doesn’t have to be discernible at a glance from 100 paces away, but the colours and shape or font should be. Take a walk through the cereal aisle of the grocery store or a main street sidewalk in downtown Galt, Hespeler, or Preston to see what we mean.
There are several different types of logos to take into consideration, including logotype (e.g. Google), emblem (typical for educational institutions, but also Harley Davidson), and pictorial mark (e.g. Ghostbusters). Grand River Sign
Design’s logo is a combination of logotype and pictorial. You really can have it all! But what works best on your signage?
All of it. Seriously, we can make anything into a sign!
You can have a pictorial logo on a sign just as easily as a logotype, what you’ve got to factor in is visibility. Will your logo look great on a business card and stand out and be memorable at a trade show? Will customers hang on to your logo-branded merchandise or donate it to a charity garage sale? The answers to these questions are crucial.
How visible is your signage right now? Take a look at your building sign, any additional outdoor signage, window etchings and clings, event and trade show banners, and in-store promotional or informational signage. Will your new logo enhance, or detract? You don’t have to use it on every single sign, but you want to use it often enough that it comes to mind when a customer is wondering who to call when they need the products or services your business supplies.
Your building sign, window signs, and event signage are some of your greatest long-term advertising budget investments, so ensure that your logo will suit your space for years to come.
